Weekly Challenge: Cardboard
I am challenging you to think a little bit out of the box today and use mixed media techniques as well as scrapbooking to make something out of cardboard. What you make is completely up to you. You can make a cardboard mini album, tag, layout, keepsake box, mixed media canvas, card or anything else you can come up with. The challenge is to incorporated corrugated cardboard somewhere in your project.
I love using cardboard in paper crafting projects because it can take so much abuse. You can spray it, rip it, sand it, tear it, dye it and it will still hold up very nicely. Cardboard also gives a great vintage, aged and grungy look.
It is also very easy to find. At any given time I probably have several cardboard boxes lying around. To get the corrugated look simply tear the outer layer off of your cardboard. You will be left with the the zig zag corrugated look. If you don’t have any boxes lying around you can make your own corrugated cardboard using a paper crimper like this one from Fiskars for $11.98.
Cardboard Scrapbook
For my project I made a cover for a new mini album I am going to be working on using the Teresa Collins Vintage Finds collection. I worked on the cover last night and made it out of the corrugated cardboard I had saved. I sprayed it with several misters including brown, black, white and a glittery copper color. I tore some paper from the collection, distressed it quite a bit and added some gold embossing. I added several embellishments including embossed Tim Holtz gears and a 7 Gypsies pin. The title, pearls and large rhinestone embellishment all came from the Vintage Finds collection. I hope to share the rest of this album very soon.
So get out your boxes and starting making some cardboard projects. Share them with us here.
